Frequently Asked Questions: ° Is this installer 100% compatible to the original one? No, the original installer has many bugs, which cause it to crash or freeze. I didn't emulate this behaviour. In addition to that, the original description of the language is quiet weak. You can't even say what is right and and what is wrong. Even the available documentation is proved to be wrong for several commands. I did my very best to make every command act like the original installer, but even I may not noticed all side effects and hidden features. If you find a problem tell me and I will try to adapt. ° Is this installer based on InstallerNG ? No, this Installer is a complete new product written from scratch in over 500 hours of my spare time. Also InstallerNG claimed to be 100% compatible, so as my installer isn't that compatible it can't base on the same source. ° Is this installer based on the Commodore Installer ? No, see previous question. ° Why should I use your installer and not the original one? Well it may work for existing installer scripts, but upcoming scripts will for sure use the ability to display any amount of textual information inside the installer window. If you're happy with only being able to read the first 4 or 5 fixed sized lines and the crappy look, than there is no reason to update. The original installer will stay compatible, as I don't plan compatibly breaks of any kind in the future. ° What are the new key features of this new installer? There are none. Well, that not 100% correct. There is one feature related to the installer language. The new installer supports a new banner variable (@app-banner) which allows to change the window banner at script runtime. Beside that all new features are in usage and visual appearance. The preferences allows configurations everyone dreamed about when using the original installer and there may be further enhancements in the future like security switch which would warn on dangerous external actions like format or deletition outside target drawer.
